Xander Tay – Portfolio

A Jamboree is a large rally of scouts and girl guides at a national or international level. I was privileged enough to be able to participate in the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in 2023. There, scouts and guides from over 200 countries around the world gathered to have fun and celebrate. Meeting so many people from different countries exposed me to different cultures and experiences that were unique from anything I had ever heard before. Having talked to scouts from Australia to Namibia, the experience really opened my eyes to the true cultural and ethnic diversity of our world. It was interesting to even see Scouts from conflicting countries like India and Pakistan put aside their political differences and just have fun with one another. Learning about the day-to-day lives of foreign scouts and guides gave me real culture shocks. Some of them had not even been out of their home countries before! To this day, the jamboree will hold a special place in my heart as it was an experience that gave me many new friends from around the world.
